Paul, who accurately 'predicted' the outcome of every match played by Germany in South Africa, also successfully chose Spain before they beat the Netherlands 1-0 after extra time in the final.
The creature is housed at the Oberhausen Sea Life centre in Germany and 'retired' from the tricky world of prediction following the tournament's end.
"We are negotiating with Oberhausen zoo to get Paul here for a short-term stay or indefinitely," a spokesman told Sky News.
"We are prepared to swap Paul for any animal that they may want. We are ready to pay for it.
"There is no agreement yet."
The zoo in the Spanish capital has received dozens of emails from the country's inhabitants asking that Paul be signed up.
Such is the eight-legged sea-dweller's status, a Galician town mayor is to travel to Germany to help negotiate a deal, according to El Pais.
"The octopuses have more educational than conservational value," the zoo spokesman continued.
"They are very intelligent and can be used as a tool to communicate environmental values to our youngest visitors."
